Dear Parents and Students, Welcome to the new school year! Our class will be challenging and filled with excitement as students work both individually and in groups (When it is safe to do so) to strengthen their reading and critical thinking skills for core classes and the English End of Course I, II and III. Focusing on current events and other informational articles, students will discuss their opinions and thoughts. Short writing responses using different text structures will provide them writing practice for their End of Course English I, II and III Exams. Students also will use technology to create research projects presenting information in various formats. They will also read fiction and practice explaining character analysis and plot development. Thinking maps and graphic organizers will show the sequence of events in the story while flowcharts will illustrate the thought organization such as what happened first, second, third and so on. Graphic organizers will also help students understand problem and resolution as well as cause and effect in a story. Learning these comprehension strategies will assist students in other core subjects such as, math, science and social studies. Students will also learn key vocabulary terms and the etymology of the words. We will also use Language Live to practice our writing and reading skills.
